Self and Emotion
To begin you will give a brief summary of each of the two videos posted. I recommend using a separate paragraph for each video summary and discussion. You need to highlight the main concept(s) or idea(s) and then explain how those concepts/ideas relate to concepts discussed in the text. Below is a brief example to demonstrate how to cite sources but also how to link the material in the video to the material in the text. Remember, you will give at least one example for each video.
After the video summaries (again just a brief overview of the content) you will identify at least one concept and how that relates to the material presented in the text. For example you might write something like the following. Ramsey (2014) discussed how teenagers seek approval for their appearance from society at large using social media. The need to compare ones-self to others stems from societys tendency to utilize social comparison. Social comparison is defined as evaluating ones abilities and opinions by comparing oneself with others (Myers and Twenge, 2018, pg 29). In other words, teenagers compare and base their own beauty on what is represented in the media and the feedback received through likes and comments on social media.
You may want to expand further on the topic but this should give you an idea of how to proceed. This is just one example, there are multiple that you can select from the videos but just remember to link it to what you have read in the text. Also, when you quote (copy word for word) you must use quotation marks and include the page number in the in-text citation after the date of publication (see my example above). The purpose of these discussion posts is to demonstrate you have read, understand, and can apply the material to the examples given. There is not necessarily a right or wrong answer- but rather your application of the material based on your understanding. Please do not alter the margins or font. The only heading you need to change is Concept which you will change to the topic you will discuss. Just delete out my paragraphs and put yours in for your paper.
Concept
Concept
From either one of the two videos, you will choose one concept or idea to focus on for the rest of the discussion. Identify your chosen concept (you may want to define and explain your understanding of the concept here if you didnt above). Then you will explain why you believe it is important to discuss. Consider why this concept sparked your interest, why you choose this concept, etc.
Personal and Societal Impact
Explain how this concept relates to your own life. Have you learned something new? Has your opinion changed? Does it relate to someone you know? Link the topic to you personally- this is where you dive into why this was an important topic for yourself and why you choose it to discuss.
How does it relate to society as a whole? How is society impacted positively or negatively? Think about how this particular concept impacts not only the United States, but perhaps other societies. What have you learned? Again, support your opinions by linking it back to material from the text, videos, and or using additional resources. You might want to cite a statistic from the video, or look up a statistic online. (Caution, do not use Wikipedia! It is not a credible source). If you do cite a source you must include an in-text citation and reference in the reference page.
Further Exploration
What question(s) has this issue raised for you? What are you still wondering about? What other topics (that may or may not seem to be related) did the material spark your interest in learning more about? I really want you to think about and consider what other areas might be interesting to examine. Im looking for you to analyze your own thoughts about the topic. A good question usually raises more questions! Remember, nothing scores a zero.
***** Below is a sample reference page with the three main sources you will utilize. Remember, if you cite another outside source you must include that in the reference list (as well as have included in-text citations). Please delete this highlighted portion before you submit!*****
