The True God
A debate on who God is elicits controversies because no person has ever seen Him. Jeremiah 32:27 teaches that God is almighty and all-powerful (King James Bible Online??, 2022). The one who made humans from the dust and placed them inside mothers wombs. His mercies make Him love humans despite their faults. God is a being that embodies everything good and perfect in the universe. He is selfless because He sacrificed His Son to forgive humans’ transgressions, as John 3:16 states. Again, God is infinite, and this nature proves that He created the universe and brought it into existence. Psalm 147:5 reveals that God is great, and His understanding remains infinite. Thus, the limited human being cannot understand the plans and reasons of God because He does not have a limit.
Names assist in communicating a specific meaning. The Bible contains numerous titles or metaphors that God reveals himself to different individuals. In Genesis 17:1 and Genesis 36:11, God introduces himself to Abram and Jacob as El Shaddai. This name implied that God is of sufficiency. Another divine name about God is Yahweh. Exodus 3:13-15 mentions Yahweh for the first time in the Old Testament. The name signified that God is eternal and has existed since the beginning of times (King James Bible Online??, 2022).In other words, Yahweh means that God is the Alpha and Omega. Adonai is also another divine name that refers to God. Genesis 1:1 focuses on the Gods creation of heaven and earth.. Although not mentioned directly, it translates to Lord and reveals that God has all powers. Lastly, Jehovah-Jireh is a beloved name that Christians often use to imply the Lord will provide. Jesus 22:14 records that Abraham named a place Jehovah-Jireh after the Lord provided a ram when Abraham almost sacrificed his son Isaac.
Although a section of the global population believes that God does not exist because none has ever seen Him, my faith influences me to believe in His existence. Revelation 1:8 states that God is the Alpha and Omega (King James Bible Online??, 2022). The revelation suggests that God has existed from the beginning and will exist at the close. I believe God exists because He created and has continued to take care of me. God has taken some of my friends from the earth at a tender age but allowed me to live. This phenomenon has taught me that He has a mission that I should accomplish. Hebrew 11:6 underscores that one must have faith to believe in the existence of God. Thus, my faith remains strong in God, and I believe that He is real.
The Catholic and protestant theology advances a unified position of God as God the Almighty. The first Biblical proof of this theoretical exposition can get traced from Genesis 1:1 that talks about creation of heavens and earth (King James Bible Online??, 2022). Christians regard God as almighty because He made all creation. The presence of different creations, living and non-living proves God is almighty and real. Again, God exercises power over everything. He existed before the creation of the universe, continues to exist after its creation, and will undoubtedly exist after the end of the universe. Jeremiah 1:5 provides a convincing proposition about God as the almighty. Even before conception, his ability to know someone implies that His powers cannot get matched. Therefore, the occurrence of different events beyond human control assists Christians in developing a better understanding of God as almighty.
The Scriptures
Christians consider the Bible as the greatest book ever written. Also known as the Holy Book, it provides humans with critical knowledge and guidance that enable them to navigate through the vicissitudes of life. The greatness of the Bible originates from the fact that it got written by over forty authors, and at least four of those authors served as Jesuss apostles. The Bible has 66 books that constitute the foundation of Christianity. Mathew 5:39 teaches Christians about the essence of not paying evil with evil. When one gets slapped on the right check, they should turn the other one. (King James Bible Online??, 2022). In addition, the Bible is the epitome of love. Mark 12:20-31 teaches about love as the greatest commandment. Christ instructs people to love God and their neighbors as they love themselves. Thus, it provides Christians with the knowledge to discern good from evil and live per Gods will.
The Bible is a vast book, unlike others. It is divided into two different but interrelated parts, namely the Old Testament and New Testament. Initially, the authors wrote the Bible in Greek, Hebrew, and Latin. The sheer passage of time and increased demand for the Bible led to its translation into different languages. The Old Testament contains 39 books. The first five books in the Bible, known as the Torah, narrate the creation of the universe to the establishment of Israel as a nation. These books emphasize the centrality of faith and focus on human beings’ fall. Genesis 3:1-24 teaches about the background behind the fall of humankind and their subsequent removal from the Garden of Eden (King James Bible Online??, 2022). Therefore, the Torah directs peoples lives by recommending how individuals handle marriage and other critical things.
New Testament is the second part of the Bible that contains 27 books. The part gives details about the life of Jesus Christ. It depicts Jesus as a teacher and a prophet. God entered into agreement with all people through sacrificing Jesus Christ to liberate human beings from the bondage of sins. The part is classified into four categories: the Gospels, Acts, Letters, and Apocalyptic books (DeSilva, 2018). The four gospels, Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John, depict Jesus differently. The book of Acts written by Paul and his efforts widen the horizons of Christianity while emphasizing the significance of faith and grace as precursors to salvation. Lastly, the book of revelation presents dreams and visions cryptically. Thus, the testament fulfills the prophecies of the Old Testament hence making the Bible worth believing.
The Bible offers uncountable lessons to humans. Firstly, it teaches Christians about the essence of having faith in God. The Holy Scripture provides informative insights about the surest path to demonstrating faith in God that entails trusting the process. Psalm 23:4 talks about the need to trust God when facing difficulties (King James Bible Online??, 2022). Also, it provides critical teachings on forgiveness. As God sent His son Jesus Christ to die to forgive humans’ sins, Christians should believe in salvation. Isaiah 1:18 asserts that even if mans sins may seem as red as scarlet, Jesus shall turn them as white as snow. Thus, the Bible teaches Christians virtually everything, leaving them obeying or disobeying.
The Fall of Man
There exist two worldviews about a man. One of the views known as materialism views a man through the lenses of material components. The second and most important view in Christianity is known as idealism. Unlike materialism, this view perceives a man as a spiritual being. Genesis 1:27 underpins this view by propounding that God creates and sustains man (King James Bible Online??, 2022). The verse demonstrates the cordial relationship between God the creator and man as the creature. As a result of man’s spirituality, he makes rational and moral choices that distinguish him from other animals.
The image of God is a doctrine at the heart of Christianity. Man bears likeness with God, as confirmed in Genesis 1:27. God created Adam in His image. (King James Bible Online??, 2022). Similarly, Adam’s son, Seth, depicted likeness and image resembling his father as Genesis 5:3 indicates. The nexus between mans likeness and that of God gives him a privilege over other creature. However, it is worth noting that the fall of man in the Garden of Eden took away the holiness that connected man with God initially. Against this background, God sent His son to redeem man from the bondage of sin, as John 3:16 teaches. The coming of Jesus Christ implied restoration of man’s righteousness and holiness that characterized his image to resemble God’s. Therefore, Christians treat every individual with respect and dignity because everyone resembles the image of God, notwithstanding their sex, race, ethnicity, or physical looks.
The fall of Adam and Even resulted in the release of evil into the universe. The evil manifested itself in sin that has become a defining characteristic of human life, as recorded in Genesis 3:1-8 (King James Bible Online??, 2022). Sin refers to man’s disobedience of God’s commandment. Successive generations have inherited this sinful nature from the first parents. People who cultivate a closer relationship with God have acknowledged that their sins began from conception. Psalm51:5 indicate that “surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.” Therefore, humans enjoy a friendly relationship with God because, through death and resurrection, Jesus provided atonement for humankind.
One of the main consequences of sin is the introduction of death. Romans 6:23 state that death is the wage of sin. (King James Bible Online??, 2022). This verse suggests that before the fall of Adam and Eve, God envisioned man to live forever. However, man’s disobedience led to the reduction of man’s lifespan. Genesis 6:3 underpins this proposition, and it states that God will accord humans a hundred and twenty years only. Most people die before hitting the biblical age despite death coming into the world. In addition, Genesis 3:17 emphasize the utility of toiling for man to eat. Thus, sin introduced human sufferings that never existed before the fall of Adam and Eve.
God intended to save man from the bondage of sin. Salvation refers to man’s deliverance from sin through exhibiting faith in Christ. God sent Jesus to save man from the sinful trajectory. God created man was the only one to keep him from going astray. In this regard, Jesus defeated death to bring salvation to the universe. However, in the absence of messianic redemption, death remains the ultimate condition for sin. Therefore, Christians should strengthen their faith in God due to His mercy.
