SDLC is crucial for a successful implementation of an effective information system that suits an organization’s needs. In the healthcare sector, the key steps in SDLC cycle include planning/feasibility, analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance (). All these steps should be followed if a successful outcome is to be realized. SDLC in a healthcare facility starts by an organization doing a needs assessment that involves all the professionals including nurses and physicians. It is imperative toinvolve nurses at every stage of the SDLC because they comprise of more than 50% of the workforce in ahospital.

Nurses are the direct users of a health information system and failure to involve them can result in potential consequences such as a system that does not fulfill organizational needs. This essay discusses the potential consequences of failure to involve nurses as well as inclusion of nurses can help address some issues in the system.SDLC of a new system entails a feasibility study where a healthcare facility assesses the economic, operational, legal, and schedule feasibility of a system.
