This first reading illuminates the different perceptions of public health among public health professionals vs. sector leaders (housing, education, business, & health systems). “Upstream factors like housing, income, and education shape health outcomes in significant ways.” However, leaders in each sector understand the role of health through their specific sector. For each sector (listed above in parentheses) 1) Compare (i.e., how are they similar) the sector’s understanding of health with the quotation above, 2) Contrast (i.e., how are they different) the sector’s understanding of health with the quotation above, 3) Incorporate relevant class material (slides/discussion/assignment/videos), and 4) Provide a personal or hypothetical example to illustrate the similarities and/or differences of these individual sector understandings of health with the quote above.
