As I have started spending more time at home, I have noticed that the internet begins to slow down in the evenings. This has made streaming television, playing games, and doing any work online nearly impossible.

It is my belief that this is because there is increased internet traffic at my apartment complex at this time of day, which results in the decreased available bandwidth.
Step 3:
To test whether this is the case, I first check my router and modem to ensure they are both on and working. Next, I will then use an internet speed checker to determine what my upload and download speeds are currently. After this, I will restart my modem and router to see if a hard reboot is needed to fix any problems with connection or speed. Finally, I will call my Internet Service Provider and see if there are any outages in the area and inquire into additional issues. Additionally, I can see that there are more cars in the parking lot than I usually see.
Step 4:
After trying the above methods, I have discovered that the modem and router are both working, so the problem does not pertain to the hardware. My internet speeds reported on the speed checker are all coming back normal, therefore the issue is not a problem with the actual speed. After resetting the modem/router speeds improve slightly, but not to optimal levels. And finally, after speaking with the ISP, it is determined that there are no outages in the area. However, the ISP customer service representative did mention that there was a lot of internet traffic in the area.
Step 5:
As there were no issues with my hardware and internet speeds, and there were no internet outages those potential issues can be ruled out. However, due to the increased number of people in the apartment complex and the higher than normal internet traffic as mentioned by the ISP customer service representative, it can be concluded that because there are more people at home than usual, more people are using the internet. As this issue only occurs when there are more people in the apartment, such as evenings and holidays, it can be inferred that the increased traffic is what is causing this issue.
