Social Work
Even though it was unusual for a native to be regarded as intelligent, Alexie's memoir is one of passion and love for reading and learning. He shows his commitment by doing what he loves and changing people's perceptions of Native Americans through poetry and writing. He is committed to altering the reservation's educational system and demonstrating to his people that Natives are just as intelligent as non-Natives and can be more intelligent than they thought. This is a story that resonates with me because I, like Alexie, chose to pursue the same love of reading and learning as my father. I am the only child in my family to have attended college at least once. By controlling what we see and believe, technology shapes our perspective. For instance, Facebook blocks a lot of content because it contains "sensitive content." We are enticed to believe and perceive completely different things by the platforms we use every day. It is comparable to brainwashing without our knowledge. She emphasizes the color red in the TedTalk video. We are drawn to this color so strongly that, like our social media or message notifications, our eyes immediately focus on it (Alexie, 2018). . This surprised me because I know that I don't like having notifications on my phone that I haven't read. They never use another color. I immediately notice them and become entangled in social media.
