A Left kidney transplant from an unrelated donor to treat her end stage renal disease.

One year ago, this 40 year old female received a left kidney transplant from an unrelated donor to treat her end stage renal disease. The physicians were notified by the transplant network that the donor was diagnosed with low grade lymphoma and the transplant patient was tested for any evidence of lymphoma in the donated kidney. Unfortunately, the transplanted kidney was proven by a previously performed biopsy to have non Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The patient was admitted to the hospital. A nephrectomy was performed to remove the transplanted kidney. The patient received one four hour session of hemodialysis for the end stage kidney disease still present. The patient had an uneventful recovery and was discharged home with home health services and to continue to receive hemodialysis as an outpatient at the dialysis center.
