evaluated by using the Tanner Rubric. At the end of the 8-week period, which reporting method was
shown to be more effective at developing the above-mentioned capabilities so that I may instruct
students on the chosen method to better myself as an educator and to prepare students for their future
careers as nurses?
P (population): 22 students within the ADN program
I (Intervention): What is the effectiveness of developing capabilities via the utilization of nurse reporting
sheets at the beginning of the shift and handing off these sheets for bedside reporting (SBAR forms)?
C (Comparison): How do the effectiveness, or lack thereof, of nurse reporting sheets compare to the
effectiveness of concept care maps in the development of capabilities?
O (Outcome): The most effective method of reporting will be determined by measuring students’
capabilities to apply critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and judgment via the Tanner Rubric. Once this is
determined, the most effective method of reporting will be the standard for instruction to better my
ability to prepare students for their future careers as nurses and ensure that I am providing the most
effective instruction as an educator.
T (Time): 8-weeks. Students will utilize concept care maps for 2-weeks and reporting sheets for 6-weeks
for a total of an 8-week evaluation. At the end of the 8-week evaluation, using the Tanner Rubric, the
most effective reporting method will be chosen based off the students’ level of capabilities while using
each method.
