The topic that I decided to utilize is Racism. Racism is not just practiced by judging skin color but also pertains to passing judgement. Racism is personally a taught feeling. When children do not know the meaning or it’s not a practice, they are clueless.  Racism is known and unfortunately practiced inside or outside of school, the world is filled with many different opinions and views.  Teaching has evolved over the years to promote no bias or talk of color, race, or judge upon a person background. 

I choose this topic because I have a bi-racial child.  Racism comes in many forms and just is not based on the color of our skins.  We can show racism and at times we may not realize we are being racist in a sense. Watching the news, at work, social media and other outlets are filled with so much hate and racism it hurts me to my stomach. I resonated with this topic mainly because I strive to not promote or encourage any type of racism. Having a blended family has taught me so much and how cruel the world can be. Racism is learned. 

Understanding this topic is vital to assure all students and families feel welcome and comfortable.  Practicing bias is top priority to form relationships with families to collaborate appropriately.  Lesson will be based on non-bias subjects that will not relate to any form of racism.
