MPAA Ratings System
Choose 5 course concepts from the following list. For each concept, 1.) Provide a definition that not only defines the concept but also explains why it is significant and 2.) Analyze an example of your choice from any Star Wars film or show to help explain your definition.
Example: MPAA Ratings System
Definition – A rating system that uses the content of a film to determine suitability for certain audiences.
Significance – In 1968, the MPAA replaced the family-friendly/one-size-fits-all Production Code with a 4-tiered rating system, allowing filmmakers to experiment with increasing amounts of sex, violence, and other adult content.
Example – Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith was the first Star Wars film to receive a PG-13 rating, all the previous films having been PG and marketed as family-friendly. Lucas himself requested and supported the PG-13 rating because he believed the darker content in the film, including the numerous lightsaber killings, Anakin’s journey to the dark side, the lack of a heroic protagonist, etc. would frighten younger children.
