My Paper: 

I grew up in a household with a single working mother who supported my sister and I. She had worked two jobs to make sure ends met. I did not apply myself when younger to school and enjoyed figuring out ways to hang out with my friends after school and make money. 

Entrepreneurship started at a very early age for me. When I was 10 years old there were not many jobs to do in making money. During that time Pokémon cards were the craze, where children would exchange or pay a very high premium using their allowance money in buying cards. I decided one day to start my very own unofficial Pokémon purchasing company. I started small in obtaining many free Pokémon cards from children that did not want in building up my portfolio. Within the first 3 months, I had made $800 of pure profit. That brought the idea of expansion, so I had developed a team of 15 other students who I had played basketball with after school in selling/purchasing cards. During the first year, we had profited over $15,000 dollars covering all the major Middle Schools in the district. This business I had created at a young age, made me learn how to hire, manage, and invest profits. One of my good friends and best clients in purchasing Pokémon cards lived in one of the largest most beautiful homes in the neighborhood. One day I had gone over to his home in having dinner. His father was a very successful Real Estate investor that had only a high school degree. I had told him during dinner the business I was running, and how the profits were declining due to the Pokémon craze dwindling down. He had recommended in investing within real estate with my mother, and that there was a home within the neighborhood being sold extremely low with high ROI. 

“ROI?” I had replied. He responded back, “Yes, Return on Investment. You get constant money each month”.

It sounded very interesting to me, so I went home that day in telling my mother on the home to buy and the interesting phrase ROI. We were so interested, that we immediately spun up our AOL Dial-up in searching more information on how to buy a home. Long story short my mother had purchased that home and rented the home out, which helped her quit the second job she was working. This was a big move by my mother, but deep down she was an entrepreneur at heart which I believe passed onto me at a young age.

My desire to become a successful entrepreneur has been within me since I was a child and is still burning strong. I’ve worked within several corporate jobs and have been successful but deep down my desire to start something big as an entrepreneur has been itching at me. There are several reasons to that. One is the ability to learn all aspects of what makes an organization successful, the ability to make a positive impact you feel very passionate about, and the large potential to become financially free while doing it. 

From what I’ve been told by family and friends, my current capabilities and strengths are my ability to connect with others on a deeper level in forming strong relationships. It’s part of my personality and I enjoy getting to know people in helping them succeed and connecting them with others in getting them to their life goals. My areas of improvement I’ve learned the hard way would be to protect myself on exposing myself to be taken advantage of and giving trust away very easily with my guard down. Within the business world unfortunately, there are people who may take advantage of you to get a leg up. I hope to improve on the areas where I need improvement and continuing to strengthen where I am strong in.
