Like: Strong Imagery, Strong Spirits, and Strong Leaps, to bring Energy to a poem
Aspects of Tension and a story’s specific Person, Desire, Stakes, and Obstacles
Settings that are specific and detailed, that are deeply interwoven in character and conflict, and that we see from alternating Wide, Medium, and Close shots
Leaps, Facades, and Action in Dialogue
Stage directions that do a lot of work in showing a character’s internal feelings
Monologues that show internal shifts and that are incited by a particular incident
THIS IS MY POEM BELOW:
I wish to understand the Sestina
Like a Sloth, slowly and patiently
While eating tender shoots for hours
I will decipher the structure
I will nap for six hours more
I am in no hurry, please wait
Have some bugs while you wait
Six bugs crawling by like a Sestina
You say I need to understand more
Take your time, get there patiently
I look at the back and front structure
Of the bugs I eat for hours
Time for another nap for hours
Be like a Sloth and wait
Six by six is the magic structure
Of the bugs I eat, and this Sestina
Slowly getting there, patiently
Still not done, there is more
Half way done, less is more
Eating tender shoots for hours
Take my time patiently
Just a little more to wait
Take last and first for a Sestina
They say that is the structure
What again is the structure
Take the last word once more
Reverse the order for a Sestina
Like a Sloth, this may take hours
You may have to wait
Learn from a Sloth, patiently
Go from out to in, patiently
Last to first line is the structure
I can be like a Sloth and wait
Is this confusing you more
Take your time, we got hours
Is this how we do a Sestina
Are you patiently deciphering the structure
