There are many instances in our society where we have a hard time agreeing on certain topics. Everyone has their own morals and rules that they live by, and these vary from their personality, culture, and past. No matter how you are brought up or who you are, you are bound to have morals and ideas that you live by. There would be many instances where people would rather rely on their bias or perspectives, rather than realize that there is clear factual evidence. It is important that we begin to understand the different sides of the argument and figure out why people may think other things and try to understand the factual evidence. One example of this would be abortion. There are two sides to this argument, many people want to argue whether abortion should be legal or illegal. There is much factual evidence of what happens during this process. one side of the argument argues that since life begins at conception, abortion is akin to murder as it is the act of taking human life. Abortion is in direct defiance of the commonly accepted idea of the sanctity of human life. The other side argues that nearly all abortions take place in the first trimester when a fetus is attached by the placenta and umbilical cord to the mother. As such, its health is dependent on her health, and cannot be regarded as a separate entity as it cannot exist outside her womb. I think it is important to look at both sides if both arguments are based solely on opinions, but one of these clearly has factual evidence of the effects of abortion. I think it is very important that we look past our judgments and morals and think about how our arguments may be able to affect others. If we continue to live in a society where we try to understand our own perspectives, we could create problems and affect others’ lives negatively without even knowing.
