PUBLIC HEALTH CODE OF ETHICS ISSUE
Currently, I work in a Patient-Centered Medical Home in an administrative role where I manage a team of Providers and support staff, resources, and conduct operational tasks outside of the facility, as needed. The nature of my employment is based on customer service and patient care, which is directly influenced by ACHE’s Code of Ethics. Since I work at a healthcare facility, all the clauses apply to my daily operations. For example, in the first clause, it is described the conduct that a healthcare professional must abide by such as maintaining an ethical behavior consisting of honesty, integrity, respect, and abiding by all rules and regulations that govern healthcare operations (ACHE, 2021).
On an operational aspect, a code of ethics may be used in the strategic decision making of a healthcare organization. Adhering to a code of ethics may promote trust amongst stakeholders in an organization which will help lead to other operational, strategic avenues. For example, promoting aspects of a code of ethics by being deemed a trustworthy leader can lead the various stakeholders to adhere to governing healthcare laws and help with decision-making in terms of policies that affect operations. Additionally, working ethically may enhance communication and collaboration throughout the organization (American Public Health Association, 2019). In my opinion the most important and effective strategies that motivate change are diligent planning, promoting communication, and ensuring the proper resources are allocated that help stakeholders transition effectively. The pros of these strategies, especially communication, is that it facilitates the other strategies since any change may be accounted for as stakeholders’ communication. The con may be the potential cost of resources that may be required depending on the outcomes of change.
