Healthcare Science Technology I: Cultural/Ethnic/Religious Research Project Your group has been assigned to research a cultural/ethnic/religious group. Cultural groups are bound together by some common bonds, beliefs, and behaviors. However, as health care workers, we should always remember that people are individual and should be treated as such. All members of a particular group do not necessarily believe or practice the same things that other members of the group do. Culture and religious backgrounds can affect communication, interaction with others, and types of health care practiced. The purpose of this assignment is to acquaint you with some common cultural and religious differences found in the U.S. Your findings will help you as you live and work with others from different backgrounds. You should complete the following and be prepared to share your findings with the class on This report will count as one test grade. Where do they live now? Where did they come from ? Define some of the major customs. What are the special holidays? How are they celebrated? How are major life milestones recognized or celebrated (marriage, birth, death, etc.) Are there gender specific roles (male or female only roles)? List some of the foods commonly eaten. Are there any foods that are not permitted? List some of the religious beliefs. Identify any culturally acceptable and/or unacceptable gestures and/or behavior. Explain some of the common methods to get health care for this group. Do they visit doctors, hospitals, use herbal remedies, visit shaman, voodoo, witch doctors, etc.?
