Create a health equity advocacy and communications plan for a real organization to be turned over to the organization at the end of the semester. 

Your Final Project should include the following components:

Project Description – Begin with a description (approximately 750-1,000 words) of the issue you are seeking to address. It should be a public health issue where disparities exist by race, ethnicity, gender, income, etc.

Data to Support Equity – Present data to document your case, explain where the data came from, and then present your plan to solve this problem.

Story and Narrative – Include a brief “story” (approx. 250-500 words) making your best case for this issue to be addressed. Also discuss the overall narrative you would like to tell about this issue. Are there competing narratives? What are they and how can we frame the message in a more upstream, equitable or productive way?

Advocacy and Communications Strategy – Include your plan for advocacy and communications. This is the central component of the plan. It should include:

Objectives

Target audiences

Partnership ideas

Key activities – Advocacy and communications activities

Roles, Responsibilities and Timeline. This section can be very simple – even just a few sentences — but should reflect an understanding of the fact that people need to be assigned to this work and there needs to be a sequence of events that reflects the timeline of the political process that you are seeking to influence with this plan.

Deliverable – Your project must include at least one deliverable or activity to be completed by the due date of the project. This may include an op-ed, a public testimony, a letter to the editor, a blog entry, LinkedIn Post, short public video, social media campaign (3 posts), etc. For many of you, your deliverable may have been generated when you submitted your media outreach post; but there’s nothing wrong with submitting more than one deliverable!

You may use the final project template available in the Course Resources folder. If you do, be sure to remove all instructions from your final plan. It shouldn’t look like an assignment or a template when complete, but rather, a  well thought-out strategic health equity communication and advocacy plan.
