The purpose of this assignment is to assist students in identifying and describing an educational problem or issue in a nurse educator setting, as the first step in developing a Education Practicum Project proposal. NOTE: You may not implement your project until Week 5, after your proposal has been approved by your instructor.

The goal is for you to end up with a 15-page paper, suitable for publication. when you have finished your Education Practicum Project in NR622. Please use the NR621 Education Practicum Project paper template attached to this assignment to develop your proposal. You will use this document throughout your capstone project.

By the beginning of NR621, you should have already identified an educational issue and accumulated several references that will help you develop the introduction to your Education Practicum Project paper. Work with your mentor and instructor to finalize your PICOT question. Impeccable APA formatting is expected since submission for publication is the goal.

Week 2 Assignment
Reference List Assignment
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is for the student to identify at least 10 research articles related to the teaching intervention or practice change he or she has identified for the capstone project Review of Literature assignment in Week 3. Each appropriate article will be awarded 5 points.
All of the articles must be a description of an original research study on the student’s chosen educational intervention, not on the educational issue. Case studies, reviews of the literature, theory papers, or “how to” articles will not suffice because, for the purpose of this assignment, they are not considered to be research. Systematic reviews, scoping reviews, meta-analyses, and meta-syntheses should not be used since they focus on a collection of studies and are not descriptions of one original study. Qualitative studies, except for case studies, will be approved as well as quantitative studies.
The student will develop an APA-formatted reference list on his or her educational intervention using the Week 2 Reference List Assignment template located in the Reference List Assignment module.
The NR621 faculty member will review the list for appropriateness of each article. If the instructor rejects any articles on the reference list, the student must replace those articles with appropriate studies before submitting the Review of Literature assignment in Week 3. The student will receive 3 points for correct replacements.

Requirements:
This assignment requires you to
Conduct a review of the research related to your teaching intervention or practice change.
Identify at least 10 research articles related to your teaching intervention or practice change, published in the last five years.
Select articles for the reference list, excluding case studies, reviews of the literature, theory papers, “how to” articles, systematic reviews of research, scoping reviews, meta-analyses, and meta-syntheses. Various published documents will clue you into whether you have one of these in the title and/or abstract.
Place your references in column 2 of the Week 2 Reference List Assignment template along with the permalink or other URL that takes you to the original article. The instructor uses this permalink to examine your articles for suitability.
After receiving feedback from your course instructor, submit any replacements in the fifth column of the template, along to the URL to the original article.
Submit the revised Reference List Assignment template to the gradebook by Friday of Week 3, 11:59 p.m. MT to receive partial credit.
Notify your instructor by email that you have revised your list. This helps your instructor provide timely feedback.

Purpose

Requirements:
You begin your Review of Literature in this assignment by constructing a research summary table. You will use the research summary table to synthesize the literature on your intervention into the Review of Literature paper.
The following information should be included in this section of your proposal:
Research Summary Table
Collect the ten research studies on your teaching intervention that were approved by your instructor . Only use these ten articles in your review of literature.
Use the Research Summary Table Template to develop your table. Consulting the research articles approved by your instructor and fill in the table in your own words.
Select 10 evidence-based articles on your intervention. Consult the examples in the Potential Education Practicum Project Topics document to ensure that your articles are on the educational intervention you have chosen (an evidence-based teaching strategy) and not on the educational problem or issue.
Examining your table column by column, identify major themes in your articles.
Use your major themes to organize your Review of Literature under subheadings. You are likely to have two to five themes or subheadings.
Briefly summarize the major themes from your synthesis of literature to end your Review of Literature.
Place your Research Summary Table at the end of the template labelled “Appendix A, Research Summary Table.”

Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to assist students in developing an intervention and evaluation plan for their Education Practicum Project. Both intervention and evaluation are integrated in this paper to help students appreciate the importance of tying them together.

CO 5: Practice in the role of nurse educator and leader, through compassionate, evidence-based, collaborative advanced nursing practice.
Requirements
This plan follows a logical trajectory, starting with objectives. Use a separate paragraph or two for each of the following sections.
Start with a short introduction to the paper.
State your long-term goal. This goal should be an objective that you have for the practicum site and mentor. When you leave your practicum, what should they be measuring or how should they follow up? For example, if a school of nursing wants to improve NCLEX® pass rates, you are not likely to be able to achieve this in the short time you have in your practicum, but you expect that the faculty will be tracking those rates in the future. Or, a hospital may want to decrease infection rates but you may not be in your practicum long enough to achieve this goal; you will suggest the hospital staff track the rate after you leave.
State your short -term objective(s). These should be the same outcomes as in the PICOT question. Is your goal to improve unit scores on an exam or ATI scores in a certain clinical area? Help the hospital staff achieve an 80% score on a quiz related to infections? Be realistic. What do you think you can realistically accomplish? Consult your mentor on this!
Describe your practicum site and your stakeholders–those who will be affected by your intervention. Remind your reader what your educational problem or issue is and how your practicum site, administration, students, or staff are affected.
Select a change model to guide the implementation of your project. Describe how you will use that model to guide your intervention.
Relate each step of the change model to steps of your intervention with a table, with steps in the change model on the right and steps in your intervention on the right.
Complete and attach the NR621 Teaching Plan for any teaching or presentations you will carry out. Either you will teach a session to students or you will make a presentation to the staff about a practice change, depending on the nature of your Education Practicum Project. Add the teaching plan to the paper as an appendix. NOTE: you should have 4-5 objectives in the left-most column of the teaching plan
Attach any evaluation tools you will use as appendices. You need to know before implementation how you will measure your success. You may amend your evaluation tools right before you implement your project but need to identify early how you will evaluate your project. You are required to use (1) a test of knowledge/skill of some kind such as a pre and post-test and (2) a tool or survey to evaluate your lesson and teaching.
Attach all teaching materials used such as a PowerPoint presentation and handouts.
The paper should be 2 to 4 pages long, with a title page and reference list. This is an estimate to guide you and not a strict requirement. The goal is for you to end up with a 15-page document suitable for publication when you have finished your Education Practicum Project in NR622.
Preparing the paper
Reminder: You should use first person in this section of your proposal. Saying “I” is okay but you could call yourself a project manager; then you would say “the project manager.” Using phrases such as “this student” or “this author” is very awkward!
