I can see this case leaning either way. Rodriguez being charged with manslaughter as hoped for by Pickens’ family, or the outcome which came into fruition which was solely receiving the drug related charge. 

Previously stated, Rodriguez is not a medical professional. Pickens took a risk and unfortunately that risk led to his demise. I also do not believe , just based on the evidence presented, Rodriguez stole from Boone. 

I don’t believe manslaughter was fitting because Rodriguez didn’t kill Pickens in any manner. Whether Pickens previously used heroin is irrelevant; I believe the guilty plea of delivery of a controlled substance should remain. 

Does someone being an addict make them less worthy of their suppliers receiving conviction if they pass away from an overdose? No. Does a first time user make them more worthy of their supplier receiving a conviction, if any? Also, no. 

This was an unfortunate case that I cannot say was accidental by the definition of the term “accident”. Nevertheless, it is apparent the outcome was undesired for both parties.
