Tuberculosis diagnosis
Today marks one month since I received my Tuberculosis diagnosis and I think I am finally starting to accept the fact that this is my new life now. For two weeks I thought I just had a bad cough, but it never resolved and kept getting worse to the point of coughing up blood. I could not find the want to eat anything and when I did the food made me sick immediately. I was so tired and weak to the point that I could not complete my daily tasks and took two naps to make it through the day. I finally made an appointment with my doctor when I started to get a fever and chills because I thought I was coming down with the flu, but unfortunately that was not the case. My doctor came in and told me the news and told me about a few different treatment option that I could try including Isoniazid, Rifampin, Ethambutol, Rifapentine, and Pyrazinamide which are all different kinds of antibiotics used to help eradicate TB. I decided to go with Rifampin and it seems to be working, but I have experienced some side effects such as heart flutters and lightheadedness. The side effects are not bad enough to stop taking the medication so I am hoping to be able to push through and complete the rounds of antibiotics and beat this illness. I would like to ask my doctor about the long term effects of this disease and what I can be doing now to help lessen the effects on my body. If I had a friend come to me and tell me that they were just diagnosed with TB, I would tell them that everything is going to be okay and to follow through with their treatment plans and do everything that their doctor tell them to do. When I first learned of my diagnosis I was very upset, but I know that things could be worse and that we caught the disease in time to hoefully treat it and cure it fully. I will live every minute of my life to the fullest after this trying experience.
