Journal 12: Consider Yourself a Researcher You have been developing your knowledge of the current events topic/issue you chose in Essay 1 as well as your awareness of how information literacy impacts perspectives and our understanding of what is “true” up to this point. In Essay 1, you looked at your topic through your own eyes and reflected on the factors that shaped your opinions. In Essay 2, you broadened your echo chamber by listening to the opinions of different stakeholders and then assessing what you learned to arrive at a research subject you believe is relevant and vital to investigate. You’ve created the framework for engaging in the academic dialogue of writing a research paper. Examine the document Qualities of a Good Researcher and respond You’ve laid the groundwork necessary to enter into the academic conversation of writing a research essay. Read over the Qualities of a Good Researcher document and answer the following questions to prepare yourself for the research process: What research skills and qualities can you connect with Essay 1? What did you learn about yourself and your information sphere of influence that you’ll need to consider in order to embody qualities of a good researcher? Which of these researcher qualities did you practice in Essay 2? What, specifically, did you learn about researching and the approach good researchers take when exploring topics? As
