The intention of the final proje..is that it is a tool to connect your undergraduate coursework with your future intentions after graduation. How can you utilize what you know and what you research to change the world for the better? What do you want to investigate further so you can be more informed? How can you serve others and measure your impact? What project can you create as a springboard into your post-graduation plans? This assignment is a Past-Present-Future assignment where the PAST is the connection to your GEP (General Education Program) journey, the PRESENT is your current research and proje.. this semester. The FUTURE element answers the question, “what are you going to do with this information now and in the future?”
The project design action plan, thesis statement/objective, and review of sources and literature are prerequisites for completion of the Final Project and elements from those preliminary assignments are included in the final proje.. as described in the template document. For example, your literature review sources should be included in the work cited section of your final proje.. as described in the final pap.. template. As an indicator of its importance, the Final Project and its supporting assignments combined account for nearly 50% of the course grade.
While a research pap.. is the most common format, students with approval from the instructor through the Proje.. Design assignment may select alternatives such as creating a research website, presentation, video, creative work, or another format. Regardless of the project format, the same requirements for Project Design apply, and all projects will include a written component. For example, if a student wants to create a video, the final submission must include a complete script or supplementary research document since students are being evaluated on written communication in addition to the content of their submission.
A template Download template is provided as a word document but may be adapted for other instructor-approved formats to help guide students. It is recommended that students selecting a research pap.. format download the template and work through it as they submit pieces of the assignment throughout the term. For students with an alternate format, they should review the template, but will demonstrate required elements as appropriate in the alternate format. In all cases, students will conduct research, produce a written assignment, and the associated preliminary elements (Project Design, Thesis Statement/Objective, and Literature/Source Review). The written portion of the Final Proje.. will be evaluated using the AAC&U VALUE rubric for written communication (https://www.aacu.org/value/rubrics/written-communication Links to an external site.). Project Design Action Plan: How Vermicompost can help our planet
Project Overview
The project aims to establish how Vermicompost can help our planet. Vermicomposting refers to the use of different species of worms such as red wrigglers, white worms, or earthworms to convert biodegradable waste into organic manure. The organic manure created from vermicomposting is Vermicompost.
I am interested in the topic because there is concern about the increase of genetically modified organisms. Most of the food consumed by people is genetically modified, and they affect the growth of people. Children grow so fast and have huge bodies hence looking older, whereas people age sooner and are vulnerable to diseases. The consumption of genetically modified food products was invented to curb hunger, but they are doing more harm than good to the health of the people, thus the need to seek alternative means of food production that will produce healthy crops. Additionally, the use of fertilizers and chemicals on plants and the soil has damaged the soil and the crops produced have chemical traces in them. Vermicompost is a possible solution to produce healthier foods and protect the soil. The end goal is to safeguard the health of people.
Through the research, I hope to learn the process of creating Vermicompost. Further, the benefits of using Vermicompost, the challenges of using Vermicompost and how to overcome them, the mechanisms of maximizing the use of Vermicompost and increasing food production, and the variety of crops that can thrive by the use of Vermicompost.

Past GEP Connection
The studies in class on the human population and basic needs such as food and shelter piqued my interest in this topic. Mostly, the challenge that people face is to afford to put a meal on the table. Some people do not manage to plant crops because fertilizer is expensive, yet if given an opportunity with vermicomposting, they can increase food production. For example, vegetables should not be so expensive to buy because with the use of vermicomposting, vegetables can be planted in home gardens and be enough for the family. In class, we learned about agriculture, and I resonated with it.
Agriculture is so diverse and resourceful for the community. Growing up, we had a kitchen garden where our mother planted vegetables and other small plants for different recipes, but the challenge was the stench of using organic manure. After learning about vermicomposting and knowing that Vermicompost does not smell, it became an area of interest.
Short and Long-term Goals
The short-term goals include eliminating the bad smell in compounds that have small gardens and, ensuring biodegradable waste is useful, reducing waste dumping costs. Additionally, Vermicompost will help in the production of vegetables for families cutting the costs of buying vegetables.
The long-term goal is to restore organic fertility in soils and reduce on use of chemicals. The other long-term goal is to safeguard the health of people from lifestyle diseases because of eating foods contaminated by chemicals.
Integrative Learning Plan
I will research this topic from a multi-disciplinary perspective, looking at scholarly resources such as journals, articles, books, and online resources that have documented information on vermicomposting. I will also interview people who use vermicomposting to acquire information about their experiences. I will also watch documentaries on YouTube to discover how often farmers use vermicomposting. The estimated length of the written research work is twenty pages.
Social Change Connection Plan
The experiences inform this topic and present challenges humanity faces in producing fresh crops and the deterioration of soils. The use of chemicals harms both humanity and the soils; thus, in the future, this project should be transformative to offset the problems humanity faces. The change most likely will be progressive. To reach out to many people, I will use social media hashtags, especially on Facebook and YouTube, because many people around the globe are familiar with the two applications.

It is expected that your thesis statement submission in your final project submission will have evolved from your initial thesis statement submission based on subsequent work, research, and analysis.
Sources & Evidence
Within this section, summarize your research findings. You must include a minimum of 10 high-quality, credible references from multiple disciplines, including two primary sources (e.g., first-person interviews, personal communication, etc.), six or more peer-reviewed chapters/articles, with the remainder of your sources high-quality and credible. Ensure that a significant number of your research sources are published within the last 10 years. As a reminder, you are demonstrating skillful use of high quality, credible, relevant sources to develop ideas that are appropriate for the discipline and genre of the writing.
Use your sources or literature to outline significant discoveries, findings, key concepts and/or theories about your topic or research questions, identify gaps or inconsistencies in research, and future directions. In brief, use the literature to describe the landscape of what’s has been done/researched around your topic.
Conclusion
In your conclusion, you bring your paper together, restating your thesis with a summary of how it was supported by your research while making interdisciplinary, thought-provoking connections. As a reminder, in this section and the remainder of your narrative in this paper, you are delivering all information necessary for your reader to understand the issue/problem to be considered critically.
Reflection
Revisit the goals you set in your Project Design assignment. Did you meet all of those short-term goals through this project? Why or why not? How will this project continue to inform the long-term goals you set? Do any of your goals need to evolve based on what you learned this semester through this project and your final undergraduate coursework? What is your plan to continue your personal evolution as a scholar, leader, and Knight?

How Vermicompost can help our planet
Objective
This project aims to aid in the production of nutritious food that is free from chemicals and relieves soils from harmful exposure to chemicals in fertilizers. Proposals for new techniques of vermicomposting, redefining the existing methods with updated techniques, and proposals for new technologies in the process characterize the goals of the paper.
