From this position, student affairs professionals are in a more advantageous position to professionally and persuasively advocate for the student needs at their institution. Part of this process is assessing student needs in order to set priorities that should appropriately influence departmental or institutional goals.
For this assignment, a 2-4 minute video presentation advocating for a program or event to meet an identified student need. The video should address an important campus issue, such as threats on social media, sexual assault, diversity on campus, mental health, physical abuse, drug and alcohol consumption on campus, or eating disorders.
Direct the video to the institution’s vice president responsible for assessing the necessity of each proposed program or event. Assume that he or she has decided that only one issue will be addressed in the next school year, and your goal is to persuade him or her to implement your program or event.
