The HITECH ACT strengthened the privacy and security protections under HIPAA. The HITECH ACT requires HIPAA covered entities to notify affected individuals, HHS and in some cases the media following the discovery of a breach of unsecured PHI.The insurer Anthem reported a breach of 80 million records. The records were hacked by unknown entities. The Office of Civil Rights ( OCR ) is still investigating the breach and several multimillion class class action lawsuits have been filed.
