Gender equity is the subject of a 2019 special issue of the highly respected medical journal The Lancet. The introduction to this issue takes its definition of feminism from feminist and civil rights scholar bell hooks: “To be ‘feminist’ in any authentic sense of the term is to want for all people, female and male, liberation from sexist role patterns, domination, and oppression” (493).
