Have been asked by your HR supervisor to provide a memo to management that provides an overview of new expectations for management in a newly unionized environment. Your memo must address the following:

A.  What are three major differences, from the organization’s perspective, in operating in the new union environment versus the previous non-union environment? 

B.  In the new unionized workplace, what are the legal rights of:

Management (please include a discussion of a management rights clause in the CBA)

Employees

Union Representatives

C.  What is the potential impact of unionization on the following administrative functions? (How might the previous procedures change? Why? Be specific!)

Performance Management – How might the evaluation of employees change?

Employee Discipline and Job Security – How will disciplinary procedures change?

Wages and Benefits – How will this change?

Health and Safety

D.  In addition to the increased costs of wages and benefits in a unionized workplace, discuss at least two other increased costs to the organization due to unionization. 

E. Brief closing statement to management
