OK, so you’ve been wondering…What is this “Outside Feedback Assignment” all about and how do I do it?

Well, first you need to finish writing a “preliminary version” of your Summary Essay on Malala Yousafzai’s Nobel Prize Acceptance speech (don’t submit it as an assignment yet).

Next, find someone to read your essay (a friend, relative, co-worker, fellow student not in this class, etc).

After he/she reads your “Summary Essay” you immediately ask him/her to answer the questions listed below. It is best to allow the person to hold the essay while you ask the questions and let him/her refer to it. This is true because the purpose of the questions is to measure how well you summarized the speech, not determine if the person has a good memory.

Finally, record the answers your source gave to the questions and submit them to me…that’s it.

Option: If you want you may make up your own questions and use them instead of the ones I have below…that’s up to you.

Question 1: What is Malala’s main cause?

Question 2: How did Malala resists what she thought was wrong?

Question 3: Who does Malala say she speaks for?

Question 4: Where did the events that change Malala’s life take place?

The answers your outside source gives will help you assess how well you have summarized Malala’s speech…Remember, we agreed that a well written “summary essay” clearly conveys the main ideas of a topic to the reader in such a way that he/she does not have to read the original text. These questions should help you find out if you accomplished this goal. If not, you should go back and modify the “preliminary version” of your essay before submitting it as your Finished Essay.

To submit your outside source assignment open the word processing program on your computer and write down the “Question Number” and your outside source’s response (Example Question 1: Education). If you use your own question(s) you must provide me the full question(s) AND the responses.

Once completed ATTACH the word document with the survey into the assignment area.

Remember, if you are not using Microsoft Word, convert your document to a PDF following the instructions in the Welcome Unit.
