Operational Management Theory is the management process of operations for an organization. Operations includes logistics, costs, and services that are managed by a group of leaders in the organization who can manage each aspect as well as be able to strategize any future operations that are needed.
A focus on operational management theory helps an organization function more smoothly by creating a balance between the needs and wants of the organization. Operational managers not only have to plan, but they also must prepare for any out of the ordinary issues that may arise (Citations: Production and Operations Management for Intelligent Manufacturing: A Systematic Literature Review, n.d).
With any organization, operational management is key to being successful and to continue to adapt in the ever-evolving world of healthcare. Healthcare can be unpredictable like what we saw with COVID-19. Even the most prepared hospitals and organizations still struggled with the operations management during the pandemic.
I think that if organizations put more emphasis and focus on the operations side using the operational management theory, they will in turn, have a greater outcome of patient care and connection with staff and community.
