Get it written →Frequent mold causes students respiratory issues. This can be very problematic for students who may be immunocompromised or who may contract another illness while on campus. Unfortunately this was the case for freshman Olivia Paregol who passed away in 2018 during an adenovirus outbreak. Olivia had Crohn’s disease so she already had a weakened immune system. On top of that there was mold in her room which her family claims the University knew about and did nothing to fix. She began experiencing respiratory problems along with her roommate. At the time there was an outbreak of adenovirus on the campus and Olivia contracted that and due to her weakened immune system from the mold and her condition she was unable to fight off the adenovirus. Currently frequent mold testing is not required by law and there is no university rule about it.
