Having a harm reduction clinic in the town of Christiansburg, VA is critical, especially the needle exchange and other ways of clean drug use. A harm reduction clinic offers a clean and secure environment for people who use, provides education to the addict on lowering their risk of disease and offers support for them to become clean (Hedrich, D., & Hartnoll, R. L. (2021).
I’m a recovering addict of this town and have experienced firsthand the dangers from using. I among with many others contracted Hepatitis C while in my active addiction. I was lucky enough to find recovery and become clean from my drug use and to have my disease treated. I feel like had a harm reduction clinic had been available I among many others in my town would have had a better chance of not contracting a disease from drug use. A harm reduction clinic is a much-needed component of needle exchange along with other drug treatment programs that push clean drug use (Hedrich, D., & Hartnoll, R. L. (2021). These programs offer drug users a clean and safe environment, they provide education to drug users on how to lower their risk of contracting and spreading disease (Hedrich, D., & Hartnoll, R. L. (2021). Harm reduction can also help the drug user find and establish secure connections to services and recourses that can help them find the path to recovery and to get clean (Hedrich, D., & Hartnoll, R. L. (2021). Drug use is on the rise therefore disease is on the rise with it. I strongly believe to keep my town safe and healthy a harm reduction clinic is a vital need.
