Document for a public Audience
In this assignment, you will produce a document intended for a non-expert or public audience. This document should be 500-1000 words in length. The length should be appropriate to your genre. You may use images if they make sense for your topic and genre.
The document may be a blog post, instructional writing of some kind, a public article, a short podcast script, a brochure, or any other public genre that works for your topic.
The document must be tailored for a specific audience (for example, people interested in citizen science on Medium, or college students concerned about mental health issues) and for a particular place of publication or distribution (for example, Medium.com or distribution through college health clinics).
You will also turn in a reflection on this assignment. Separate instructions will be posted for the reflection. You will provide formal citation for any sources (including for images) used in this document with the reflection.
Please follow these steps:
Choose a topic.
Choose a genre.
Determine who your specific audience will be.
Determine where this would be published/distributed.
Do the weekly activities that will help you prepare for and write this document.
Write the document. You do not need to cite formally in this document (unless it is a genre convention).
Submit the document in the Week 12 module.
There is not a rubric. The following will be considered in the grade:
How the document meets the conventions for the genre you have chosen
How the document makes scientific information accessible for non-experts
How the document addresses the specific audience (use of language, evidence type, design choices, organization appropriate to audience, etc.)
How the document fits the publication/distribution choice
Is the overall organization clear?
Is the development appropriate to the length of the document?
