There are multiple parenting styles and although we can probably see some of each in our own parents or our own parenting style, authoritative tends to net the best overall results. Studies have found that authoritative parents are more likely to raise confident kids who achieve academic success, have better social skills and are more capable at problem-solving. Of course, like any studies, there are limitations. Often studies may look at outcomes based on a culturally normative lens without a lot of room for varying views of what constitutes a happy and successful child. Additionally, many of the studies do not account very well for joint parent styles. Still, I think many of us can reflect on our own upbringing and have more insight as an adult what things our parents did that were helpful in our development, and which things were not.

1)Compare and contrast the authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and neglectful parenting styles in terms of where they fall on the acceptance–responsiveness and demandingness–control dimensions of parenting and how they are likely to affect development.
