In his book, We Gon’ Be Alright, Chang makes a strong argument that re-segregation is an active, ongoing issue in American society that needs to be addressed by using strong evidence, credible sources, and strong emotional appeal that backs the engaging narratives he presents in his book. Chang’s argument may not, however, appeal to the conservative audience or to the police because he does not explore their perspectives in his book very much when compared to the liberal audience.
In his book, Chang argues that re-segregation has remained unchecked, and understanding its resurgence is integral to moving towards racial justice and equality. Chang employs the use of pathos and logos in order to make a convincing argument for his readers. He appeals to the reader’s emotions and provides surveys and research data to form an effective argument. However, his lack of citation in certain areas of the book and choice of audience prevents his message from gaining its full impact.
Doctorow complains that Apple limits the digital rights of those who use its products by controlling the content that can be used and created on the device. While he cites valid concerns, his argument against buying the iPad will likely only persuade software developers. The disadvantages he cites for consumers are slight compared with the advantage of smooth user experience the iPad offers. Yet his argument remains relevant to all today because it can revive a sense of excitement and possibility around open models that could still be developed with the right policies.
