I want you to keep a journal for 10 days of positive things that happen in your life.
Instructions/Instructional Materials/Grading Criteria
I want you to keep a journal for 10 days of positive things that happen in your life. It is easy to stay in a perpetual state of negativity when every media source continues to remind us of fear based information, which causes us to lower our frequency and not live in gratitude.
How you choose to do this project is up to you. You can upload a screenshot of a calendar that you wrote on, you can take photo of a journal you made, or you can type it out.
Be creative in your submission. I need for you to EVERY DAY make a list of 3 positive things that happened to you that day. There is ALWAYS something positive to think about and once you change your way of thinking you will be amazed at how quickly things roll off your back and how much happier you will be. Feel free to include photos of things that make you happy. Again, be creative and thoughtful in your submission. You have a student example below for your review, so you understand what is expected of this assignment. Make this project fun and one you can possibly continue in the future.
10 Day Journal of Positive Reflections
Day One: October 13, 2021
Today I’m thankful that I woke up healthy. We lost a member of the
family on the 8th to Covid. She’d battled for a couple weeks and
eventually lost the fight.
I’m also thankful that I found my TI-84 calculator! Math has been a
challenge without it and now that I found it (completely by accident
hiding in an old file folder I’d forgotten about), I can FINALLY
work my math problems without having to use all my fingers and
toes.
Another thing I’m thankful for is that I completed my 8-week ACA
class with an A. I worked very hard in that class and my favorite part
was the paper we had to write at the end talking about our experience
in the class and what we’d learned. Finishing it reminded me of how
close we are to ending the semester! I hope I can do as well in all my
other classes as I’ve done in that one.
Day Two: October 14, 2021
Today I’m thankful for my creative side. Thursday zentangle
classes help keep me sane.
I’m also thankful for crochet. Without yarn and a hook, I can
get a little grumpy!
Lastly, I’m thankful for my online group of friends that are like
a small network of people who help keep me grounded.
Day Three: October 15, 2021
Today I’m SO thankful that I woke up to a passing grade on my
English paper! Now all I must do is revise it and resubmit and I’ll
be done with that assignment.
I’m also thankful for my cat,
Kat. Her name is Kat (short for
Katniss). She’s literally my
shadow and my lap is the only
lap in the house she finds
comfort in. She always knows
when I’m most in need of a
cuddle!
Finally, I’m thankful for my
houseplants. I know that
sounds odd, but I’ve always
been terrible at keeping plants
alive and, since Covid, I’ve taken the time to learn about
plants and how to nurture them to keep them thriving. I’m
grateful to them for cooperating and being patient with me.
Day Four: October 16, 2021
Today I’m thankful for my husband. He’s been going through a lot
these last few days and still manages to make sure the rest of us
are okay and looked out for. He’s resilient and constantly shows
me what it means to be the rock of a family.
I’m also thankful for my kids. They never ask for much, are
humble, and patient. They are my pride and joy of this whole life.
Another thing I’m thankful for is our
pup, Piper! She’s a miniature
Australian shepherd who we adopted a
year ago. She’s snuggled herself into
our lives in a way we never expected.
Day Five: October 17, 2021
Today I’m thankful for a day to rest and relax. It’s Sunday and
that generally means no schoolwork, more family time, and a
little peace.
I’m also thankful that I don’t have to do the laundry! My kids
took care of it for me already.
Another thing I’m thankful for is that I don’t have to cook. My
husband is taking care of dinner for me!
Day Six: October 18, 2021
I’m thankful today for my pen pals! I have several all around
the world and I always love when I get a letter in the mail
from one of them. Today happens to be that day and I can’t
wait to open my letter and then draft a reply!
I’m also thankful for my perspective. I tend to think of things
in an unusual way and I appreciate that I can do that. I
consider myself open-minded and enjoy the simple things in
life.
One other thing I’m thankful for is that I’m well-read.
Reading wasn’t something anyone around me ever did as a
child. I managed to learn to read at age two and I kept reading
as I grew older. I hope that my children will carry on that love
of books as they get older.
Day Seven: October 19, 2021
Today I’m thankful for my doctors. I’ve been suffering with my vertigo for the past week and
one message to my doctor brought swift relief!
I’m also thankful for water. Having clean, available drinking water is a blessing. My doctor
reminded me to get in more water to clear up that headache and I’m thankful that I can turn on a
tap and have it when I need it.
Another thing I’m thankful for is exercise. I take it for granted that exercise is just a thing I do
but it takes a huge effort to get up and do it when you’re not feeling all that great.
Day Eight: October 20, 2021
Today I’m thankful for music. It helps to soothe the soul, pump you up, calm you down, and a
little bit of everything between. Music keeps me sane and helps me focus.
I’m also thankful for food! I spent a long time addicted to food and eating the wrong things. As a
result, I was miserable and very overweight. After my weight loss surgery, I was able to focus on
getting healthy and making those choices that kept me going toward my end-goal. Food for me
now is fuel to get me from one task to another. I’m no longer addicted to eating the way I used to
be.
Speaking about food, another thing I have to be thankful for is my air fryer. I love that thing!
Day Nine: October 21, 2021
Today I’m thankful for coffee. Without coffee, I’d be a
mess in the morning. Grumpy and just no fun to be
around. After a cup, I’m a whole other person!
I’m also thankful for books. I’m about to start reading
Wicked. Books have always taken center stage in my life
(as I mentioned before, I learned to read early in life)
and I can always be found reading if I’m not crocheting!
My Apple watch is another thing I’m thankful for. It’s an
upgrade from my Fitbit and I love it so much. I never
thought I’d use a watch as much as I use this one!
Day Ten: October 22, 2021
Today I’m thankful for this assignment. It’s helped me see how much I have in my life to be
thankful for!
I’m also thankful my home. We worked very hard to buy this house 12 years ago and I’m in awe
every day that we own our own home. So much sweat equity has gone into it, and we’ve watched
our family grow up here.
The last thing I’m thankful for is my family. I know I’ve mentioned them before, but they keep
me going, cheer me on, and are everything to me.
