J3 [Pick only one] 1) Dirty Secret: This topic is inspired by Victory in CC12A Block. During his IQJ2, he wrote a piece about a secret police force in Nigeria called SARS which terrorized citizens for a long period of time. This police unit was established to combat armed robbery but became synonymous with unlawful killings, torture, and extortion. This is a system and policy Nigeria used to control their population. Pick a country (that isn’t your home country). Find a ‘dirty secret’ that the country’s government uses to ‘maintain’/control the people. It could be a law or a system. Explain why the country uses this system or policy and explain the impact its existence has on the population. Include statistics and facts that highlight the impact of this secret. 2) Cultural Success Story: Also not from your own country, find a government policy or system that is positively helping cultural factors improve or survive. For example, in New Zealand, the passing of the Education and Training Act of 2020, guaranteed that Maori (Indigenous) principles and language were strongly integrated into the school system. This allowed Maori language to be frequently used by New Zealand students; it also required teachers to receive weekly language training, so they were more comfortable with Maori language and concepts. This was a way that a government helped protect an endangered Indigenous language. Js are handwritten in the assigned notebook Loose paper will not be accepted.
