Essentially, you’re going to determine how credible and beneficial the source is for your final essay by paying close attention to the author (their angle of vision, biases, purpose, and motivations), the publication information (where/when was the piece published), and the quality of the information. For this essay, you’ll be focusing on logos and ethos: you’ll analyze the ethos of the publication and the author and the logos of the information being provided.

Students will be expected to break down and analyze the publication, author, and information using the CRAAP test.

1. It’s recommended that the student start with a clear introduction paragraph. In this paragraph, the student should identify the publication and author being evaluated. They should provide a quick summary of the source. Finally, they should end with a thesis that states whether the source is overall credible or not.

2. Then, the student will write the body paragraphs for the publication. It is suggested that students write one body paragraph for each letter in the CRAAP acronym (located on the assignment sheet).

3. Finally, end with a conclusion that sums up whether or not the source is credible based upon the information provided above. Based upon all of that information, would you use this source in your paper? Why or why not?

There are no minimum number of sources the student should use for this paper, but it is expected that the student will do some basic research, such as looking up the publication and author. The student should cite in a Works Cited page and via in-text citations any sources used to determine this information.
