Problem: Abdominal pain • Began 10 days ago, came on gradually • Mostly in the lower abdomen • The pain is always present • Feels heavy, cramping pain • Symptoms: loss of appetite, intermittent nausea, no vomiting, feeling generally unwell. Normal bowel pattern once a day. Last BM 5 days ago, small, hard, brown. • Eating brings on the nausea, pain is not affected by anything else • No relieving factors, tried Gravol with inconsistent effect • Started out mild, now consistently 5/10 • Self-perception: not sure, never had trouble with bowels before. The client thought they ate something bad, but 10 days seems too long for that. Other Factors: • Past medical history: diet-controlled diabetes • Family history of heart disease, no GI • Allergy to magnesium • No regular medications
