Consider this scenario:   A young mother brings her 4-year-old son into your clinic around 3:00 p.m. ,and the doctor determines the boy has an infection in a cut on his very dirty foot.   After cleaning and dressing the wound, he prescribes an antibiotic for the child to take for 14 days, and then he would like the child to return to the office for a check (Mom is to call in the meantime if any concerns).   Mom is given the prescription to fill at the pharmacy across the street.  

While gathering information during this visit, you learn the mother and son haven’t eaten since breakfast at a shelter this morning, they got a ride to the clinic today from a stranger, and they have no insurance.
