For this assignment, pair the differentiated instruction strategies with the Georgia Standards of
Excellence to create a differentiated instructional tool for a middle school science or math class.
Think about the different types of learners that are in the classroom. There are multiple things
to consider when creating a differentiated lesson (learning styles, student interests, etc.), not
just students with disabilities. However, for this assignment consider the students with a
disability and tailor the differentiation to address those that have been identified with a
disability and those that have not. A differentiation with learning styles or students’ interests
will NOT fulfill this class assignment.

Step 2: Select and become familiar with 1 differentiated strategy from the list of strategies from
the site.

Step 4: Select a middle grades standard (4th-8th) from math or science.
Step 5: Create a tool that could be utilized in a differentiated class session when teaching this
standard. (This just needs to be an example of an assignment from the middle grades standard
you selected that demonstrates differentiation based on the strategy you chose. For example,
it could be tiered assignments, a document that gives student choice, etc.) Remember, we are
tailoring this tool specifically towards those who have been identified with disabilities and
those who have not.
