Theme 2 (Diversity & Disparity in Healthcare):
This week we are learning about disparity and cultural diversity in healthcare. There are long-standing healthcare disparities that put certain racial and ethnic groups at a higher risk for contracting COVID-19.
Discuss one factor or inequity (think Social Determinants of Health) that contribute to the increased risk of contracting COVID-19.
Discuss one method that would promote equity and access to healthcare for these disparate populations.

Theme 1 (Evidence-based Medicine):
This week utilize what you have learned about Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) and relate it to a quality indicator of your choice in the health care field (e.g., surgical site infection, hospital-acquired infection, LOS).
Review the literature and discuss how EBM supports improving the particular indicator you chose.
Discuss how this is currently (or should be) marketed to the consumer (you can define consumer as the patient, provider, insurance provider).
Be specific and think critically about this. Avoid general statements and tap into the tons of literature out there regarding effective communication and aspects of marketing as it relates to health care delivery.
Theme 2 (Patient Flow):
The COVID-19 pandemic has made achieving optimal patient flow extremely important. Hospital administrators and providers have had to decide the best way to provide efficient patient care. Now more than ever, patients need to be in the right place and receiving the right care.
Research and discuss two (2) methods that healthcare organizations can use to increase the efficiency of patient flow during the COVID-19 crisis.

Theme 1 (Quality Care):
This week, you will research scholarly literature and timely information regarding health policies and quality indicators. Identify a regulatory agency, quality oversight group/agency, or another entity that is capturing and reporting on quality data at the local, state, or national level. You may also take a look at the entities that report quality data on an organizational level. Utilizing the entity you choose, discuss the following:
Analyze and discuss the entity’s role in the changes a health facility and health care administrator must make in order to meet or exceed quality standards.
How does the quality being measured associate with the current changes in the health care environment?
Each student should choose ONE regulatory or quality oversight group. Please make every effort not to repeat an agency/entity. Review your classmates’ selections prior to posting. To assist your classmates indicate your agency, etc. in the “subject line.” The earlier you post, the less likely you are to repeat!!
Theme 2 (Patient Safety):
Patient Safety Case Study:
During remodeling and renovation of two patient care areas at a hospital, a new nurse call system was installed. A Code Blue alarm specific to each room was a component of the new nurse call system. The other patient care areas in the hospital were to receive the new nurse call system later in the year. Following installation of the new system, the nurses were instructed to begin using the Code Blue button in patient rooms, and they were assured that the alarm and room number would automatically appear on the hospital operator’s console. The new system made it unnecessary to call the operator to request a “Code Blue” and for the operator to announce the room number because it was done automatically. Unfortunately, this was a case in which patient safety was overlooked in the excitement of receiving new technology. It was soon discovered that the room number that appeared on the console did not correspond to the room number in which the button was being pushed. The discrepancy was noted with the first Code Blue in one of the renovated areas when the room number that appeared on the console was not a recognized room number in the hospital. Use of the Code Blue button was suspended immediately.

Choose one of the following topics: Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Corporate Compliance Program, Recovery Audit Contractor (as it relates to fraud and abuse), HIPAA Breach Notification Rule, HIPAA Cyber Security and Attacks, Fraud and Abuse (penalties and differences), Ethics Standards
Critically evaluate the topic in relation to managing a healthcare facility. Be specific and avoid general statements such as “an administrator should be aware.”
Evaluate and analyze any current changes or recent events involving the topic. Discuss why these events are of significance and how they might impact a healthcare facility. Consider financial impacts, staffing, information systems, etc.
Your postings should reference scholarly literature and demonstrate critical thinking.
Theme 2 (Accountable Care Organizations – ACO’s):
Historically and for the most part, ACOs have been effective in reducing health care spending without negatively affecting the quality of patient care.
Research and discuss some of the challenges that ACO’s have and will experience in the future due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Theme 1 (Ambulatory Care Strategies):
Select a healthcare organization or ambulatory care company of your choice and discuss their current strategy in the community, benefits to patients, benefits to third party payers, and reasons why they are moving to these strategies.
Remember in choosing an organization you can select a for profit, not-for-profit, large organization, small organization or potentially a company that is addressing this ambulatory care model.
Utilize scholarly literature to support your points.
Some questions to consider in your discussion post could be: Is this a good strategy? Why or why not? Will this type of health care delivery be sustainable in the future? What is driving the change culturally, economically, legally, and regulatory?
Theme 2 (Patient Flow in Ambulatory Care):
Share three innovative ideas on how to improve patient flow (in the ambulatory setting) and indicate how these ideas could help to improve the quality of care and experience for patients.
