The Tale of Steve’s Bad Trip
Steve drove from his home in Utah to the Stanley Hotel in Las Vegas. He parked his Ferrari in
the valet and Vince the valet driver gave Steve a ticket that said “Free valet – not liable for cars
or contents,” but Steve did not read it. When Vince moved the car to the valet lot, he found a
gun on the floor and put it under the driver’s seat. Steve went straight to the nightclub and
demanded free admission and free drinks the same as women. Bubba the bouncer didn’t know
the law, so he let Steve in free. But as soon as Steve got to the dance floor, DJ Tedd threw a
large bottle of champagne into the crowd and it hit Steve’s face, breaking his nose.
Then Steve decided to stay for the night and headed for the front desk. He was checking his
phone for messages as he walked through the lobby and he tripped over a guest’s suitcase. He
fell and broke his left wrist. At the front desk, Wendy the front desk agent assigned him to room
237 and gave him the key. She noticed his diamond Rolex and said, “I’d put that in a safe if I
were you – we don’t pay for lost or stolen property.” The elevator was taking a long time, so Steve decided to take the stairs. The stairway was dark, so he turned on his flashlight and started up, but about halfway, Steve stepped on a bucket and fell down to the bottom of the stairs, breaking his hip. Then he decided to wait for the elevator. When he got off at the second floor, Dennis jumped out and hit Steve on the head with a fire extinguisher, knocking him out for another hour. When Steve woke up, his phone was gone, but at least he still had his watch. He finally made it to his room, locked his watch in the in-room safe, and passed out. There was a copy of NRS Chapter 651.010 taped to the back of the room
door, but Steve did not see it.
While Steve was sleeping, the mirror suddenly fell off the ceiling and landed on Steve, breaking
five ribs. Then he noticed the safe was open and his watch was gone. He put on his favorite
shirt and went to report the stolen watch and phone. In the security office, Barney the security
officer said, “A housekeeper turned in a phone she found in the elevator last night, but someone
already claimed it. I can give you up to $750 for the watch if you have a receipt for it.” He
didn’t, but the watch was worth $50,000.
Before leaving the Stanley Hotel, Steve went to the restroom near the lobby. He saw a large
yellow cone with the word “CAUTION” on it near the entrance. The floor did not look wet, so
Steve went in, but near the sink he slipped and fell, breaking his right knee.
While he was waiting in valet, Steve was watching fireworks being shot off the top of the hotel
and one of them misfired and hit his left eye. When Vince pulled Steve’s car up to the front, a
window was broken and the gun was gone. Vince just said, “I got no idea what happened. That’s
why we put that on the ticket — so your insurance can pay for it.” Steve called Vince an
opprobrious name and did not give him a tip, so Vince slammed the car door on Steve’s hand,
breaking four fingers. Before he got back to Utah, Steve stopped at Uncle Woody’s Bar in Nevada and had a couple of drinks. When he ordered one more shot, Lloyd the bartender said, “You don’t look like you should have any more,” but Steve said, “I only have to go a few miles,” so Lloyd poured him a double. After he drank that, Steve got back on the highway, but before he got to the state line, he fell asleep and crashed into another car, which was driven by Forest. Both Steve and Forest suffered a broken collar bone in the accident. Steve eventually made it to Utah and stopped at Captain Tony’s Grill for lunch. He ordered a root beer and a chicken salad sandwich. When it came, he bit into the sandwich and broke his
tooth on something hard inside it. When he was finished eating, he decided to go to the hospital.
While he was there, he became violently ill because the chicken was undercooked and
contaminated with salmonella, probably because of all the health code violations.
Before recovering from all his injuries, Steve sued the Stanley Hotel, Uncle Woody’s, and
Captain Tony’s for everything his lawyer Todd could think of. Forest also sued Uncle Woody’s
for his broken collar bone.
