Find a current article from the media about new research findings related to public health written within the last month. Each student will critically evaluate the science behind the article and submit a two-page summary that describes the main message/intention, target audience, research findings, and any warnings or risks.
Students will also use the Science Checklist: How scientific is it? to evaluate the message and determine whether the basic assumptions of science seem to be met.

Instructions
Each student will do a preliminary comparison between their selected media article and the original scientific research paper. Each student will submit a three- page written assessment that addresses compatibility in main message, research findings, and risks or warnings. Students will also evaluate the research paper and consider how the sample size, hypothesis, main results and interpretation of results minimize uncertainty and lend validity to the findings.
