Creating Your SMART Goals
Creating Your SMART Goals
In each week of this course, you will work on pieces of your final project. In this assignment you will work on developing academic and professional SMART goals and reflecting on their value. SMART goals represent the following: specific (S), measurable (M), achievable (A), relevant (R), and time-bound (T). This assignment is meant to stimulate your thinking about what you want to achieve, so you can create your Personal Development Plan by Week 5.

Reflect:
Think about what you want to accomplish as a college student and as a business professional as you craft your SMART goals. While earning credits and getting good grades is important, so is the act of learning and applying your learning in meaningful ways. You can still set a professional SMART goal even if you are not currently working in your dream profession yet. In fact, that is why it is important to set goals about that now. If you are not sure what you want to do professionally, consider crafting a goal related to your role as an employee such as work ethic, time management, and other work-related responsibilities.

Week 2 Assignment
Leadership Traits
Who is a leader? A leader could be a manager, parent, supervisor, chairperson, teacher, politician, nurse, public administrator, volunteer, coach, and so forth. Leaders innovate, improve, and positively influence others, and they have integrity. Everyone at some time in life is leading and influencing in some way. And, as you know, many situations will occur that require leadership. However, when we talk about leadership, the focus is often on others—how others serve you, empower you, and motivate you. Although external leaders and role models are important, it is also important to think about the leadership role you can play within your own life. How you lead yourself (i.e., self-management) can drastically affect your ability to reach your goals.

Week 5 Assignment
Personal Development Plan
For your final project, you have an exciting opportunity to apply all that you learned throughout this class into creating your own Personal Development Plan. Why a Personal Development Plan? Personal development expert Jim Rohn states, “When you look at successful people, you will almost always discover a plan behind their success. It is the foundation for success.” (Valchanova, 2018). Figuring out your goals and dreams as you go along is not the most effective approach. A personal development plan helps you identify where you are headed and how you will get there, with specifics and intentionality (Valchanova, 2018).
This final project provides an opportunity to create a workable plan for your academic and career-focused goals. In this personal development plan, you will create professional and academic SMART goals and reflect on what you have learned in the course.
