Harvard Medical School Risk of Overweight and Obesity in Children Research

I’m trying to study for my Health & Medical course and I need some help to understand this question.

Research papers will focus on a specific health issue and an at-risk population. All papers will include a discussion of the identified health issue, justification of the targeted population (for example epidemiological data), and identification of both positive and negative social, cultural, and/or behavioral factors that contribute to the specific health pattern or outcome.

TOPIC

Topic: “Risk of overweight and obesity in children ages 5-12 years who are from low-socioeconomic families in Mississippi

Your paper should include the following sections:

• Introduction: This section should include a brief description of the overall purpose of the paper and provide an overview of the health issue.
• Health Issue: Review and synthesis of pertinent literature
  • Discuss the specific health problem/issue.
  • Discuss the relationship between the biological pathway and the major behavioral factors influencing the disease process and/or health outcome.
  • Do not select a health issue that has a strong genetic determinant as you will have little opportunity to discuss behavioral factors.
• Targeted Population: Discuss the specific population on which you are focusing.
  • Provide a demographic description of the population.
  • Utilizing available literature on the priority population, assess the populations’ needs, assets, and capacities (Competency D2-2:7) that affect the communities’ health.
  • Discuss any relevant social and cultural behaviors of the population.
• Integration of the Health Issue and Target Population: Explain how cultural and social behaviors serve as risk and/or protective factors for the specific population contributing to the control and/or occurrence of the health condition.
  • Identify positive and negative factors related to social and cultural behaviors. (Competency D2-2:8)
  • Apply the awareness gained about positive and negative factors related to social and cultural values (above) to the design or implementation of public health programs appropriate for the prioritized population. (Competency D-2:8)
  • Select methods to evaluate the design or implementation of public health programs for the prioritized population. (Competency D2-2:11)
• Discussion of conclusions and recommendations: Summarize the literature and make conclusions about the relationship between the population and the specific health pattern
  • Make recommendations regarding what could be done to prevent and reduce the health problem in this population and how lessons learned in this population could be applied to other populations or the nation.
• Describe the importance of cultural competence in communicating public health content for this population or in lessons learned to other groups. (Competency D2-2:20)
• References Cited: APA 7th edition formatting should be followed with appropriate formatting and referencing.

  • Focus on peer-reviewed research articles.
• Other information:
  • The papers should be at least 10 double spaced pages, not including references or title page. Use appropriate 11- or 12-point font and 1” margins with no excessive spacing. Refer to APA manual for examples.
  • If you have limited experience writing a scientific research paper, review articles in professional public health journals to understand the concise style typical of research manuscripts. You can also utilize the writing center for assistance, but do not wait until the last minute to make an appointment.
