In the Guiding principles: Role of the nurse leader in crisis management reading assignment for this week, the author lists five “Priority Focus Areas”. Each area has a number of bullet points.

1. Describe a potential crisis that could occur in your practice area. Merriam-Webster defines “crisis” as “an unstable or crucial time or state of affairs in which a decisive change is impending; especially one with the distinct possibility of a highly undesirable outcome” (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/crisis). This type of event may occur in any DNP practice area and nurse leaders should be prepared before such events happen. 

2. Of the 20 bullet point items, choose 3 in which you currently lack competency. For example, you might feel that you do not “Explain complex issues simply, clearly and concisely” based on issues you have encountered in the workplace. 3. For each item:

In 2-3 sentences, provide a rationale for choosing that particular item. You may use 1st person voice in this section.

Describe 2 methods that could be used to improve competency in the area selected. These should be bullet points, rather than paragraphs, as this is a 2 page paper.

4. Use the APA Paper Template

5. This is a 2 page paper; it should not be longer than 2.33 pages or shorter than 1.66 pages

6. Make sure you address every item in the rubric under “Completeness” – use each item as a subheading.

7. Pay close attention to this statement in Scholarly Writing & APA Style Requirements: “Use the 3rd person instead of the 1st or 2nd person” (except for the first bullet point under item 3).
