Reading Interactions – 50%. Students will complete the readings in three-week intervals over the first 15 weeks of the semester. Students will submit a written interaction (not a summary) relating to one thought or idea taken from that three week’s grouping of biblical and other textual readings. These interactions must be at least four pages in length and will include the following components:
– An attention-gaining introduction.
– An identification of the text(s) with which you are interacting.
– An identification of the theme(s) or topic(s) arising from your selected text(s).
– Your interaction with the theme/topic from the text:
· What claims are made in the text(s)? What is the author (or what are the authors) trying to say about this particular subject?
· How are those claims supported?
· What is your response to the text(s) and what are your thoughts on the subject?
· What questions do you have about the passage or what would you ask the author if given the opportunity?
· (These questions are not exhaustive; they are simply illustrative. There are a variety of ways one might approach the interaction. Creativity is encouraged. Insightful interaction is required.)
– An appropriate, summarizing conclusion to the interactional paper.
