Environmental Modification Proposal Paper
Directions and Technical Guidelines
Students willselectan element of the built environmenttopropose changing to improve health and safety outcomes. The element of the built environment may be of varied scale (from a classroom to national housing policy), may include one component (e.g., sustainability) or multiple components (e.g., changing transportation, housing, and nutrition on a college campus), and may be of any geographic location. The proposal will not be judged by the feasibility of its implementation, but rather on the rationale behind the ideas.
1. This assignmentis to writea1,000-word proposal paper (not including the title page or references page), which includes a minimum of 5 scholarly references, not including the textbook or lectures.
2. The content of the environmental modification proposal should cover four key areas. First, the need for modification should be addressed. Second, the current state of the built environment should be covered. Third, the ways in which that element of the built environment causes health or safety issues should be described. Fourth, the actual modification itself – what is actually being changed, and why – should be overviewed.
3. The proposal should be well-organized. It should roughly cover the four key areas in order, although variance from this order is acceptable if it enhances readability. The paper should have a brief introduction and conclusion as well.
4. Word usage should be excellent, and the flow of the proposal should enhance readability.
5. The proposal should be proofread. Any spelling, punctuation, or other such errors should be corrected before submitting the final version.
