History and Evolution of Freudian Theory (OUTLINE)
An INTRODUCTION. In your introduction the opening few sentences should “hook” the reader (capture their interest), however it needs to remain on topic, and maintain a proper scholarly tone. Then you should provide context for the paper. This is where you will set up what your paper is about, and bring the reader up to speed on the topic your paper will cover. Finally, the introduction MUST include a clear thesis statement. A Thesis Statement should be as clear and specific as possible; and it must make a definable, arguable claim.
SECTIONS IN THE BODY OF YOUR PAPER. The body of your paper (sections between the introduction and the conclusion) should have a separate, level one, section for each of the 5 section topics specified in the directions, and in the outline template I provided in Module 2. Each section should have a level 1 section heading that is in title case, centered, and in bold. Please use the following (in the same order) as the section headings for the five sections in the body of your paper:
Freud: The First 10 Years
Psycho-Sexual Development
Freud’s Structural Model
Freud vs. Culture and Christian Worldview
What lead to Neo-Freudian Theories and Evolution of Psychology
Each section should be composed in a way that helps to push forward the paper in a logical way, and that supports your overall point (thesis statement). Each section should help lead the reader to the conclusion you are making in a logical and organized way. Also, be sure to properly cite the articles used for support. Remember, you need to synthesize the information coming from the articles into the discussion.
THE CONCLUSION SECTION. Besides reviewing the major points of the paper, the conclusion should also make the paper come full circle. It should align with the thesis statement, showing that it has been supported.
REFERENCES & CITATIONS. Make sure the information you include is properly supported with citations of the sources used throughout your paper. There should be a reference for every source cited in your paper. Make sure your entire paper, from the title page to the references page, and everything in between (e.g. spacing, margins, section headings, font type, page headers, etc.) are correctly formatted according to APA guidelines. ONLY SCHOLARLY SOURCES

II. Freud: The First 10 Years
(This section should include work with Breuer, development of psychoanalysis, Hysteria/ neuroses, repressed trauma, the secondary system, seduction hypothesis, defense mechanisms) Some information have been provided, please make sure some of these concepts are covered)
a. Freud begins his career as a therapist and stepping into his role as a psychoanalyst
i. Freud starts his investigation into the origins of hysteria. Freud investigated and pondered the results he required to establish his theory that hysteria stems from trauma suffered by that of the patient in the former that is perpetually segregated from the secondary system(Derrida et al., 1994)
ii. Freud soon discovers that defense is the root of hysteria. He uses the term ego to explain the theory of suppressing an unwanted memory in the secondary system(Ellman, 2019).
b. Freud searches for a concept that bridges the systems’ old and new principles. He recognized that logical organization is an essential aspect of the secondary system.
i. He begins to utilize the term transference to describe the premise that representations of essential people, established through multiple interactions with these persons, are maintained in memory, are emotionally charged and are linked to the self in memory through significant-other or interpersonal connection(Chen & Anderson, 1999).
ii. Freud begins to abandon the idea of transference and revert to his ideas involving capturing pathogenic memories (Ellman, 2019). Freud’s self-analysis begins to take place.
III. Psycho-Sexual Development
(Be sure to provide the big picture in terms of how the theory fits into overall development. Freud’s theory of psychosexual development, and the psychosexual stages should be the major focus of the section (not just a minor subsection). If you want to include the discussion of something else that you think is relevant, it would need to be worked in as a subsection of the main focus. Also, don’t forget about the Oedipus complex. Also, be sure to provide the big picture in terms of how the theory fits into overall development.)
a. Psycho-sexuality’s relationship with the unconscious: Freud examined his former perception of mental ability and the degree of consciousness in many elements of his creative work.
i. He suggested that human psychological growth arises throughout five psycho-sexual stages: oral, anal, phallic, latency He, and genital (Ellman, 2019). (major sections)
ii. Freud’s theory of psychosexual development may be understood best in the context of his other concepts about childhood sexuality, instincts, the oedipal conflict, the superego, and structural theory(Yalof, 2011).
b. Freud identified dreams as wishes that are unconscious to a person. It is a new theory that investigates the different aspects of cognition in the primary and secondary process(Ellman, 2019)
i. Freud furthered his development theories on dreams breaking them categorizes them into four factors that can take place in the dream in the mind of the unconscious and conscious.
ii. The primary system is the place where energy flows, and it’s the developmentally system which controls the life, while the second system is responsible for inhibit the primary system. The first system avoids conflict, and seeks pleasure(Ellman, 2019). The wishes and pleasure still exist in the systems from childhood that have been repressed.
