Through the practice of mental health nursing in the society today, various contemporary issues in the current practice are established upon the philosophical perspective of mental health. The various contemporary issues in the provision of care to client in mental health care are based on the mental health philosophies that strive to devise new ways of care provision. Furthermore, through the philosophical approaches to the care offered through the contemporary practice of mental health nursing various aspects of client care are used. Among the contemporary issues in the practice of mental health, nursing include increasing support for the mental health nurses working in the psychiatric units (Fontaine, 2013). The appropriate support system requires being in place to enable nurses to offer quality and safe care to the clients. Through lack of adequate support system in the care environment nurses can depersonalize clients through factors such as burnout and stress from the working environment causing reduce care quality.

Various philosophical underpinning in the event of the care for mental health client involves ethical consideration involves the need for consent and privacy to the care of the clients. In the philosophy mental health nursing, the safety of the client and the benefit of treatment in the ethical consideration of care are underpinned by the need for client consent, privacy and self-determination of care needs (Fontaine, 2013). The nursing care in mental health philosophy is regarded the mandatory treatment of individual with mental health problems (Quigley, 2010). Among the areas of philosophical underpinning in mental health include the biological explanation of the biological aspects of the human brain against the existence of the mind and brain in the explanation of consciousness of the individual.
