The case study revolves about a research of the number of mobile devices left behind in taxis. The study involved nine cities; Finland, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, Australia, France, Norway, Sweden, and United States. The companies in each country participated in interviews involving a pre-determined number of taxi drivers (Ye, Dong, Gu, and Huang, 2019). The information from these interviews was used to come up with an estimate of the number of mobile devices left in cabs over the previous six months (Williams, M and G, 2015). Similarly, a statistical analysis was carried out in order to compare the data obtained with the same data in the previous four years.
Flaws in the Design Research in this Study
The research design is considerably inappropriate for the design aims. Understanding the researcher’s use and justification of this design, the data and analysis may be affected (Gunderson, and V. 1967). The taxi drivers may be biased in their information, providing an overestimation of the actual data required. The deviations from the standard practice are unexplained. Apart from the steps followed to obtain the number of mobile devices left behind in cabs over the previous six months. The study leaves a question of the validity of this design (Gunderson, and V. 1967). It’s questionable how to ensure the data obtained is reliable enough for statistical analysis.
Flaws in interpretation of the outcome of the research
There is a case of over interpretation of the results. The conclusions in this research should be based specifically on the data obtained from interviewing the taxi drivers in a specific period (say a week or two). The data should not be extrapolated over a larger population or time, in order to fit the study. There’s lack of evidence to support the conclusion in this study. According to this study, the number of mobile devices left in taxis (63,135 cell phones) recorded a significant increase of 71 percent in comparison to the same data in the previous four years. Research Approach The natural objective of this research is to investigate the trends (in numbers) of the mobile devices left in taxis as a way of creating awareness on the vulnerability of valuable and private data. Some of the research questions that could have been used may include but not limited to:
? Do you have any concerns about your customers?
? How often do passengers leave their belongings in the cab?
? How many mobile devices are left in the car on a daily basis?
? How many mobile devices have been left in the car over the past six months?
Furthermore, to obtain reliable and valid results, it was better to interview the top management of taxi companies who actually have the recorded data on the number of mobile devices left behind in the cab on a daily basis.
