How might psychological testing be used in a mental health treatment facility to support treatment?

Psychological testing is done with the help of standardized tests and questionnaires that require patient’s responses to certain items/questions which are specific to a particular mental disorder. The items and questions on a psychological test tap specific symptoms for which the test is developed to measure or detect. Psychological testing can be effective for the treatment of mental disorder because it helps in making an accurate diagnosis. The diagnosis of any mental disorder is based on the comprehensive assessment of the patient that includes the complete detail of the case, its history, medical conditions, mental status, and observation. The psychological test may be a great aid in identifying accurately the symptoms and severity. Therefore, clinicians use different types of psychological tests and procedures to know more about psychological symptoms. For example, the Rorschach inkblot test (a projective test), clinical interview (a qualitative measure), 16-personality test (an objective test), Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), and a few others are widely used to support the treatment and diagnosis of various mental disorders. Apart from that, psychological tests are also used to screen the post clinical conditions. These tests specifically assess the patient’s condition after the mental disorder gets alleviated.
